Hi,
Thanks for your assistance!
Those references you mentioned could be very relevant. Carl George Schmidt was often reported as ‘Herr G Schmidt’ in newspapers regarding his musical involvement after he married and settled down in Toowoomba, QLD. Therefore it’s quite possible the mentions with ‘St Leon’s Tourist Band’ are the person I am looking for (I have not found him elsewhere in the years you mentioned).
One of the reasons I suspected he came with his hypothesised uncles (Lechte’s) is because they were also musicians and apparently arrived in Australia and settled in Victoria around the same time, 1858.
As I have not yet found records of Schmidt and Lechte together in Victoria, I think considering the possibility that he was in a boy band is wise. I will look into this further. Carl George Schmidt records his birth place as Wollmarshausen, Prussia, Germany. I’m quite confident this place is now Wollmarshausen, Gottingen, Lower Saxony, Germany as I have found Lechte dna relatives ancestors in the parish records.
It’s also possible that a Heinrich Wilhelm Schmidt born Lechte, could have been a brother that migrated with him.
Thanks again
